Should I join the National Guard?

I am interested in Computer Security and not having to carry arms. And, my local state's National Guard seems like an option. I can go to college, be deferred until I am done & receive all the benefits (money). I honestly do not know what I'd do after college, and I would like to serve my country (more so my state). But, another question is if there was a protest, and I was sent out there as Guard, would I be able to not go out and "stop" the protest, because I side with the protest? Thanks for info.
