What do I need in order to get a Navy Federal Credit Union Credit Card?

I'm 20. Enlisted in the Navy for active duty, but haven't gone to boot camp yet. I have a job but make less than $1000 a month. I pay 3 bills but none are in my name. The only thing on my name are school loans which are currently deferred. A lady from the credit union came in to the office to talk about the bank. Some kid said he got a credit card approved for $700 and he has no job or money, but he's enlisted like me for active duty. They said something about a safe something, where we can get approved because we are joining the military. Can anyone help me with this? I wanted some help before i go to the bank and talk to them. I need a credit card for emergency purposes since my small paycheck only manages 3 bills.
